Enlightening to Emptiness
By Pleasant Lotus
恍恍惚兮因缘起,空即当体物聚;
The cause arises from a haze.
When things gather, emptiness is existence.
The cause disappears into mist.
When things are gone, existence is emptiness.
玉藕空兮华自萌,花开花落莲成;
From the hollow of the root, lotus flowers grow.
The flowers bloom and wither; the lotus seed pod forms.
The hollow inside of the bamboo produces the nodes.
The stalk is pure, the nodes are lofty, and the style is noble.
宇宙空兮万物容,云起星聚黑洞;
The universe is empty, yet it contains the myriad things.
Clouds form and stars gather around the black hole.*
With the mind emptied the Buddha-nature manifests.
Samadhi, deep Dhyana, pure and clean.
When emptiness reaches the utmost point, adversity is followed by felicity.
Eternally, emptiness is just emptiness.
Black hole: the last stage of a star, which is characterized by such high density
that no light is emitted.
