七佛偈

The Gathas From Seven Buddhas

一.毗婆尸佛偈曰:

身从无相中受生,犹如幻出诸形相。

幻人心识本来无,罪福皆空无所住

The body is born from non-form, just like phantasm of

A lot of things

Yet mind and consciousness from dreamed people are

Empty in fact

You would not regard felicity and evil as a true thing

It is all right.

二尸弃佛偈曰:

起诸善法本是幻,造诸恶业亦是幻。

身如聚沫心如风,幻出无根无实性。

In fact doing good is empty, and then doing evil is empty, too.

And yet the body is just like foam, the mind being like wind,

They have no roots or features, all are vanity of vanities, yeah

三。毗舍佛偈曰:

假借四大以为身,心本无生因境有。

前境若无心亦无,罪福如幻起亦灭。

We always disregard Four Substances as our body.

And there has never been mind which comes out,

Where there is dreamland, there is mind appearing

Whether fairyland doesn’t come out, mind won’t .

Felicity and evil are in a dream and then are gone.

四。拘留孙佛偈曰:

见身无实是佛身,了心如幻是佛幻。

了得身心本性空,斯人与佛何殊别。

When you feel your body is empty, the empty

Body is just Buddha’s body.

When you feel your mind is vanity, the empty

Mind is just Buddha’s mind.

If you had felt your mind and body are empty,

You should become Buddha ?

五。拘那含牟尼佛偈曰:

佛不见身知是佛,若实有知别无佛。

智者能知罪性空,坦然不怖于生死。

When Buddha doesn’t feel his body, his

Consciousness is his Buddha.

The sage should know empty evil, he is

Never afraid of life or death.

六迦叶佛偈曰:

一切众生性清静,从本无生无可灭。

即此身心是幻生,幻化之中无罪福。

Dharmakaya of all creatures is quiet and pure, there

Is no emergence or evanescence from it.

It is your mind and body that are in a dream, there

Is no felicity or evil in an empty dream.

七释迦牟尼佛曰

法本法无法,无法法亦法。

今付无法时,法法何曾法。

As for Dharma , it is never dharma itself, yet

Dharma without dharma is dharma.

At present I send no dharma to you, you feel

Where dharma, no dharma will be ?

法、非法、非非法,舍非非法;

门、无门、无无门,入无无门。

Dharma,non-dharma, no non-dharma, the last one should be given up;

A gate, non-gate, no non-gate, the last one would havebe gotten in.

你不能传授任何知识给别人,

只能助他一背之力找到他的本有之宝。

You cannot teach a man anything. You can

only help him discover it within himself。

世尊说的偈:

嫉妒睡眠掉,贪欲是恶法,牵人至地狱,至竟无解脱,

是以当舍离,嫉妒及睡调,亦当舍于欲,莫造彼恶行。

Buddha says :

Envy, sleep, greed, which are evil, they force the sufferers going

To the hell, at last they would not be set free for good, therefore,

The people have to give up the three ones, never doing evil again.

世尊说的偈:

世间有五欲,意为第六王,已知内外六,当念尽苦际。

一切行无常,生者必有死,不生则不死,此灭为最乐。

Buddha says:

There are Five Desires on the earth, another one: consciousness

Which is the Sixth King. If you are completely aware of the inner

And outer king, the present mind is all sufferings. All formations

Are impermanence, birth leads to death. No birth means no death,

The disappearance of no birth being the most cheerful and joyful.

难陀说的偈:

人生不足贵,天寿尽亦丧,地狱痛酸苦,唯有涅槃乐。

Master Nantuo says:

Life is not precious, the life span is disappeared, the heaviest sufferings and troubles

Coming from the hell, so the most cheerful and joyful merely from Nirvana.

问:欲修何法,即得解脱?

答:唯有顿悟一门,即得解脱。

问:云何顿悟?

答:顿者,顿除妄念。悟者,悟无所得。

Someone asked :

What dharma would be practiced to free myself from worldly worries promptly ?

Master Dazhu answered:

The only way getting rid of shackles means coming to a sudden realization

What is to extricate myself ? The sudden moment means getting rid of your

Minds, the realization means understanding to attain nothing. Do you see it?

2006.3.17.

禅宗的禅:“不立文字,教外别传,直指人心,见性成佛。”

Dhyana said:

Don’t set up the wordage supplementary to deliver a surmon after teaching

Direct to the will of people to witness the Dharmakaya attains Buddhahood.

要理解‘缘起性空’话,弥勒菩萨说的偈:“有分别是识,

无分别是智。依识染,依智净。染有生死,净无诸佛。”

As there is difference which means consciousness,

If there is no difference, it means Prajna Paramita

Following consciousness is dirty, following prjana

Is pureness. There is life and death to the dirty,and

Yet there are no names of the Buddhas to the purity.

2006-2-26

我本求心心自持,求心不得待心知。

佛性不从心外得,心生便是罪生时。

我本求心不求佛,了知三界空无物。

若欲求佛但求心,只这心心心是佛。

I hope I could find out mind that is from my heart,

If I am not looking for mind, my heart still touch it.

Touching Buddhata is not out of heart, mind is evil

Yet in fact I want to look for mind, not for Buddha,

And nowadays I have known that there is nothing

In Three World which is empty, empty, and empty

Whether I found out Buddha and mind, my mind,

My spirit and my soul will be from my Buddhata.

无心无可得,说得不名法。若了心非心,始解心心法。

弥遮迦尊者

There being no mind, it doesn’t come by, its coming by is not dharma.

Experiecing mind is not mind, and yet you understand heart and soul

我已无我故,汝须见我我。汝若师我故,知我非我我。

罗睺罗尊者。

I have not had me in my mind, you should see it is I who am empty.

If you want to learn from me , you ’d feel I haven’t been me so far.

非法亦非心,无心亦无法。说是心法时,是法非心法。

商那和修尊者

It is not dharma or mind. There is no dharma or mind.

While dharma is talked, it is neither dharma nor mind .

心自本来心,本心非有法。有法有本心,非心非本法。

优波毱多尊者。

Mind is from heart itself, there is no dharma in heart.

Whether there is dharma and mind in it, they are not.

我本来兹土,传法救迷情。一花开五叶,结果自然成。

达摩祖师

As I am from this land, I’d wake up the puzzled people to teach Dharma .

And while a flower with five leaves comes out, it will grow up naturally.

2006-2-13

诸行无常,是生灭法。生灭灭已,寂灭为乐。

All formations are impermanence, so they are dharma of production and

Destruction. After the dharma are gone, then this kind of quietude is joy.

世尊说的偈:

我常说空法,远离于断常,生死如幻梦,而彼业不坏。

虚空及涅槃,灭二亦如是。愚夫作忘想,诸圣离有无。

世尊偈曰

Buddha says:

I always mention void, it is far away from non-existence.

Life and death is just like a dream, yet its karma is never

Ruined. Void and Nirvana, both of them are gone and in

Fact are never ruined. The fools see them as their desires,

The sages are far away from existence and non-existence.

The Famous and Popular Sayings By a Buddhist monk Fa Rong

Translation One

Where there are just minds in your head,

They come from the non-heart.

Whenever and wherever there is non-heart,

There are only minds without it

Talking directly of the name and substance

Is better than doing wrong of them.

Nowadays talking about non-heart is not

Different from minds in the head .

Translation Two

While just using the soul, just non-heart is

being used,

While just using non-heart, using it always disappears.

Talking directly about the name and substance

is much

More better than talking wrongly about them.It is true.

Nowadays talking about non-heart is the same

as soul.

恰恰用心时,恰恰无心用。

无心恰恰用,常用恰恰无。

曲谭名相劳,直说无繁重。

今说无心处,不与有心殊。

In 19 Aug. 2004

A capful of winds rising, mind has trees swinging to and fro. Clouds

Drifting, dusts come to mental power. If you have knowledge of the

Present things, it will ignore the nature of your consciousness. All

Dharmas are soul-light, all the conditions are known by consciousness

Actually there are neither fools nor sages, only present mind known.

龙济绍修禅师:

风动心摇树,云生性起尘。

若明今日事,昧却本来人。

万法是心光,诸缘唯性晓。

本无迷悟人,只要今日了。

The Famous And Popular Gatha

by Bodhisattva ShanHui

You are still asleep and get up with Buddha nights and days forever,

Together with whom sitting down, standing up, speaking, not talking,

Living in, you are completely along with him, just as your body and

Your shadow .If you are sure where Buddha is, it is the spoken man.

夜夜抱佛眠,朝朝还共起。

起坐镇相随,语默同居止。

纤毫不相离,如身影相似。

欲识佛去处,只这语者是。

2006-4-6

With the hoe grasped in his empty hands,

His hiking is as if his riding on the buffalo.

And when a man walks across the bridge,

The bridge is flowing, yet the water isn’t.

善慧大士脍炙人口的偈

空手把锄头,步行骑水牛。

人从桥上过,桥流水不流。

The Famous And Popular Gatha By Master Sheng Xiu

Your body is just like a Bo Tree , your heart is just like a bright mirror table.

You have to whisk it so hard hourly, yet there must be no dust on the mirror.

Note: Bo tree is a pipal .

身是菩提树,心如明镜台。时时勤拂拭,莫使惹尘埃。

The Famous And Popular Gatha By The Sixth Sect Hui Neng

In nature there is no tree for Bodhi , the bright-mirror is not the table, either.

In nature there is nothing at all, anywhere is there dust which makes you sad?

菩提本无树,明镜亦非台。本来无一物,何处惹尘埃。

The Famous Gatha By The Sixth Sect Hui Neng

Sitting, not falling in sleep while being born

Falling in sleep, not sitting while being dead

Your body is just the utensil of a foul bone,

Why are you busy with its failure or success ?

生来坐不卧,死去卧不坐。

原是臭骨头,何为立功过?The Famous Gatha by a Buddhist monk Bao Zhang

In nature there is no life or death,

Showing up life and death nowadays .

And yet I have to live in my heart,

The second body will be here again

本来无生死,今亦示生死。

我得去住心,他生复来此。

Good and Evil are forgotten

Your direct heart is true indeed,

Bodhi is a rite in your heart.

The Famous Gatha By Monk Zhi Chei

My keeping to impermanence mood,

Buddha shows up imperishable nature.

He who does not know ways is as if

He is picking up gravels in spring pools

Nowadays I’m not working hard at it

And yet Buddhata is really at present.

It is not Master who teaches it to me,

As yet I have gotten nothing at all.

因守无常心,佛演有常性。

不知方便者,犹春池拾砾。

我今不施功,佛性而现前。

非师相授与,我亦无所得。

The Famous Gatha By Monk Tao Wu

Purity and immorality live together

Water and waves have the same form.

Touching circumstances is confused,

Otherwise going home is greatly forgot

Yet the three worlds are equal in fact,

Which of them are quite pure in nature.

There is no mind while facing states,

Which means Buddha is felt and seen

垢净共住,水波同体。

触境迷着,浩然忘归。

三世平等,本来清净。

一念不起,即见佛心。

Wo Lun said:

Wo Lun has many tricks, which cut off hundreds of desires.

There is no mind facing states, Bo is growing up each day.

Hui Neng said:

Hui Neng has no tricks, not cutting off hundred of desires

There are minds facing states, so how Bo grows up one day ?

卧轮有伎俩,能断百思想对境心不起,菩提日日长。

慧能无伎俩,不断百思想。对境心数起,菩提怎么长?

The less you speak one word, the more you utter the name of Amitabha.Fo

You strike your minds down in order to let Dhamarkaya of yours showimg.

少说一句话,多念一句佛。打得念头死,许汝法身活。

There is Amitabha who is not out of your heart,

Amitabha Fo is just your heart.

There is deep faith of your heart and distrust

Of it,there is no mind in yours

心外无佛,佛即汝心。深信不惑,一念不生。

Truth says nothing but Heart, the lotus seeds of your heart

begin to grow up which lies in meditation , being

not two.

道无他说,唯心而已。莲胎始成,专精勿二

Evil deeds must not be done, yet good deeds must be done heartily。

Your minds must be purified by yourself , which means Buddhism。

诸恶莫作,众善奉行。自净其意,是诸佛教。

The bee is not willing to fly out of the empty gate,

That is so foolish, her rushing out of the window.

She is flying in wasted papers in a hundred years,

When will she awaken up from it ? no one knows.

空门不肯出,投窗也大痴。

The gagha for the advice of uttering

the name of Amitabha

By Great Master Shan Tao

Soon, with wrinkled skin and white hair,

And look, you are at old age doddering

Since there are jade and golden piled up

Round your home, which is hard to avoid

Your being older, disabled and ill.In spit

Of your having a thousand kinds of joys

Transience will come to visit you at last.

So there is the sole short way to practice

Buddhist rules, which is just an uttering

Of the name of Amitabha a day and a night .

渐渐鸡皮鹤发,看看行步龙钟。

假饶金玉满堂,难免衰残老病。

任尔千般快乐,无常终是到来。

唯有径路修行,但念阿弥陀佛

You take a view of who the person is and what thing the mind is

In fact this should not be found out. Yet spring is still ongoing.

When one hundred of flowers are already fallen.

Mountains still

Stand high, oh , water in them are still deep。That

偈曰:

观是何人心何物,本来这个不须寻。

百花落尽春无尽,山自高兮水自深。

农历二〇〇六年二月初五

A message of praise says:

It is I who am blubbering while being in a dreaming,

It is not I who am smiling while being in a wake-up.

Well, why, where there is greed, hatred and stupidity,

Then it is just time for you to take a view of yourself

颂曰:

梦时有我哭,醒时无我笑。

贪嗔痴何在,正好自观照。

Amessage of praise says :

Gold is as valuable as Buddhadharma, the Buddhist doctrines

Is a lot more precious than gold. When you would like to look

For it, it is not being attained, at this time, I’d show you peace. .

颂曰:

黄金贵似佛法,佛法贵似黄金。

觅时了不可得,吾已与汝安心。

A message of praise says :

Oh, there is nothing at all, why, what things make a thief

Coming in.Even though there are a lot of treasures, there is

Only the empty room which is left, after thievery of them.

颂曰:

本来无一物,何事惹贼入。

纵使多珍宝,劫去还空室。

A message of praise says :

The most familiar thing is just the strangest one

Yet when secret of void is mentioned, no one has

Known about it . Those who are seeking out The

Way have to be laugh at, for they have doubt of

Consciousness in the head being right or wrong.

颂曰:

最平常是最神奇,说出悬空人不知。

好笑纷纷求道者,意中疑是又疑非。

A message of praise says :

Everyone has had the one which is available and precious for good.

If it had been mentioned, why it would not be worthy of half a coin

Wherever the sage without ranks is, the catching-fire lampis mystic.

颂曰:

人人有个用不尽,说出那值半文钱。

无位真人何处是,一灯不灭最玄玄。

A message of praise says :

It is clear that there is someone is at home, he who

Has no reasons to answer have an appointment of

Himself. It is not the other who is knocking at the

Door, staying overnight in anther place, he and I

Are in the body. It is rather strange and interesting.

颂曰:

舍内分明有个人,无端答应自相亲。

扣门借宿非他也,尔我原来是一身。

农历二〇〇六年二月初五

Poem says:

There is no word which exists in Buddhadharma from West.

If you want to understand it, only it is you who work hard

At mind and consciousness.The right Dharma exists in gaining

A thorough understanding of esoteric Buddhist teachings.

The “barge of mercy” ferries that all the miserable and foolish

People from a sea of bitterness to the world of bliss.okay.

诗曰:

佛法西来一字无

全凭心意用功夫

眼藏正法拈花笑

苦海慈航化俗愚

A man regards his body as nature, which has minds as a stick of power.

There is right nature which shouldn’t have gotten minds falling wrong .

Yet the minds being not correct will kill the nature. If you are not away

From the mistake above, why to say it is lazy for you to look yourself in

A mirror. Not uttering The Diamond Sutra has the Bodhisattva quite homesick.

寒山诗曰:

人以身为本,本以心为柄。本在心莫邪,心邪丧本命。

未能免此殃,何言懒照镜。不念金刚经,却令菩萨病。

Vanity is just a huge house , which is a mother to whom Prajna gives birth.

The body is of ubiquitous supernatural power, the heart is itself a free king

Finally, all that exist will be destroyed. While understanding it, you are far

Away from being impermanence promptly . Where being faced with scene

and conditions, it is important being soft is always superior to being hard.

楚石诗曰:

虚空一大宅,般若所生娘。身是神通藏,心为自在王。

千般归有坏,一悟出无常。对境逢缘处,惟柔可胜刚。

There are billions and billions of the worldly people. whose

Faces are not quite alike.If you want to know why, here is a

Message to be sent: Because they always keep their general

Ideas. At the same time they regard the wrong ideas as the

Right ones much more often. The only thing to be done is

That you’d practice Buddhist, not discussible of the others.

拾得诗曰:

世人亿万人,面孔不相似。借问何因缘,致令遣如此,

各持一般见,互说非兼是。但自修己身,不要言他己。

All creatures on earth is like a wonderful painting which is

Right similar.Direct to their heart and soul, which is difficult

To be described, from which all creatures and all the Buddha

Come. Earth , lands , mountains ,rivers, all are just yourself.

楚石诗曰:

世人妙丹青,传相无不似。指点方寸间,难描在于此。

众生所流出,诸佛只者是。大地于山河,头头皆自己。

Minds for people are just like their faces which look a bit similar.

If they are regarded similar, the same is not true. Is it necessary to

Mention you and me ? Don’t regarded right as wrong, at the same

Time,wrong as right,either.For the people, the reason takes long to

Succeed in reaching and understanding, how precious non-self is.

石树诗曰:

人心如面焉,亦有说相似。相似则非真,而况言彼此。

毋以是为非,勿以非作是。理长能服人,所贵在无己。

Fools have a flashy mind which comes and goes uncounted. Everlasting

Fatal calamity is always from samsara to samsara ,The resource of which

Is just in the darkness. Indeed they have no rest in order to be greedy of

Wealth , the long evils completely done by themselves. If you wants to

Know their roots, it is just like the shadow of the bodies. Understanding.

楚石诗曰:

人心刹那间,生灭不可纪。历劫受轮回,无明为种子。

贪财殊未歇,长恶何由己。若欲识其源,如身影相似。

Three Worlds is just like a circling wheel, floating lives being

Right like flowing stream. My God, there are so many kinds

Of the simple and folly, They are greedy of birth, never being

Aware of death.You have to have a stare at a dropping of dew

In the morning that has a little bit time to leave. Approaching.

拾得诗曰:

三界如转轮,浮生若流水。蠢蠢诸品类,

贪生不觉死。汝看朝垂露,能得几时子。

Rain is turned into snow when it is pretty cold.

Ice is turned into water when it is sunny. Birth

Consists of Four Resources, Death means the

Six consciousness which is far away from the

Body. And yet how long the lives for human

Will last, Buddhadharma has known by a few.

楚石诗曰:

天寒雨作雪,日暖冰为水。四大合而生,

六尘离即死。人寿能几何,佛法无多子。

Life is just in floating dusts exactly like fish swim in the flowing water.

If he sank into water, a person would be death. And yet if fish came up

To the lands it would be death. If you had a quiet look at dust or water,

You would feel where the roots to birth and death are? Do you tell me it.

石树诗曰:

人生在浮尘,鱼命托流水。人坠水亡生,

鱼入尘即死。静看尘水中。生死没些子。

I live alone in the mountains where no one knows me.

Still there are calmness and quietness in white clouds.

我居山,勿人识。白云中,常寂寂。(寒山诗)

I have to surprise all creatures have got the karma and mind out.

Please force them back into light which is always calm and quiet.

咄众生,弄业识。请回光,本空寂。(楚石诗)

Glance at green hills and mountains where clouds circle your minds

At the same time the clouds are free, the wisdom is still calm , quiet.

看青山,云转识。云自闲,智自寂。(石树诗)

The Epigraph Of Confidence By Ceng Can

信心铭(僧璨作)

The Abstract Way is not quite difficulty, of which the choice is barely satisfying. Hope you should not love or hate it, it is perfect to understand it. If you had a little bit errors of its insight, just like Heaven is separated from Earth. If The Way is showed at present, there is neither success nor failure. Success is against failure, which is just the ill-mind. It is not mysterious theory. It is in vain for you to sit still and quiet. The Perfect Way is the same as vanity, which is neither more nor less, it is just the reason why you want to gain it or give it up, therefore, you should gain no insight into it. @ Don’t seek after the condition from existence, nor after unfeeling from emptiness, which is natural to be out of sight with a general kind of soul. Motion to calmness means calmness to motion. The two sides won’t come to a stop, while you are merely aware of one side. If one side had not been known, the two sides should have failed. It is from void to void that you seek after being or non-being. More words are not suitable to more thoughts. Wherever there are no words or thoughts, it is a direct rout to approach to The Way. @No errors or dharma, no sense or mind. Mind is always far away from a state of it, the state of mind is almost far away from the mind. The state comes from the state of mind , the mind comes from the mind of state. If you are still aware of the mind and the state, they are really empty for good. As soon as you feel void the same as the two, void includes all. Not seen, the spirit and substance are not aside ? The Way is always wide and wide, not easy or difficulty. The simple and folly have unclear ideas, which are sometimes quick, sometimes slow. @ It is a wrong road that you take hold of it is not proper. While giving it up, the body of The Way doesn’t exist in it. When your nature is always with The Way, You are set free from worldly troubles. And yet when the mind fights against the nature, you are unaware and absent-minded. Don’t annoy your spirit and there should be no differences between being close or unfriendly. If you wanted to gain One Yana, you should not hate Six Dusts, which are not disliked, you are aware and conscious. The wise is barely a doer for good and the simple is always a binder of himself. @The dharma is never different one, which you have a desire to like. Isn’t it an extremely huge fault while your mind making use of your mind ? When you are a fan of birth and puzzled, understanding is neither good nor bad. Meanwhile you have to deeply think over all which has two sides. Why work hard to grasp rosy dreams and empty flowers ? At once you ought to give up success and failure, right and wrong .Your eyes are not open and lots of dreams are out of sight promptly. The mental power being the same , ten thousand of dharmas are the same ,too. @ The nature of the Truth is actually mystic, it lies in how you forget the conditions. Looking through ten thousand of dharmas together, which is still back to the nature finally once again. Looking over it, it is why they have been out of sight, nothing will be taken for example. There is no movement in stopping movement and there is no stop in a stop to movement, neither of which come to an existence, well, why and where the existence is ? There is no rules to be a last seeker of them. Where there is an equal and calm soul, nothing which will be done come to a stop. When a single doubt is kept completely pure with direct and correct beliefs @ There is no doubts to be left at all, which will not be able to have been remembered anymore. Empty and empty light always is a shiner of itself , barely bothering the mental power of yours. It is pretty unthinkable, at the same time, it is quite difficulty for you to make use of the knowledge in judging it. The unconditioned, unchanging reality and dharmakaya is neither the other nor himself, which you want so much to be the same as, only saying they are not two. The not-two which is the same always includes all for ever The wise around the ten directions have all come into this temple of Buddha. The temple isnot kept long, one mind being ten thousand years. However, the temple is just here or not here, the ten directions are still in first sight. The minimum one is just the same as the maximum one, completely forgetting its state, meanwhile, the maximum one is right the minimum one, not seeing its sides and appearances. Being is just non-being, and yet non-being is right being If not so, it is not necessary for you to have hold of it. Because one is all , and all is one. As long as it is like this, why think it is endless ? Confidence is never two, two is never confidence The mentioned words are far away from The Way ,which neither is gone nor will be back here..@

至道无难,唯嫌拣择。但莫憎爱,洞然明白。

毫厘有差,天地悬隔。欲得现前,莫存顺逆,

违顺相争,是为心病。不是玄旨,徒劳念静。

圆同太虚,无欠无余。良由取舍,所以不如。

莫逐有缘,勿住空忍。一种平怀,泯然自尽。

止动归止,止更弥动。唯滞两边,宁知一种。

一种不通,两处失功。遣有没有,从空背空。

多言多虑,转不相应。绝言绝虑,无处不通。

归根得旨,随照失宗。须臾返照,胜却前空。

前空转变,皆由忘见。不用求真,唯须息见。

二见不住,慎莫追寻。才有是非,纷然失心。

二由一有,一亦莫守。一心不生,万法无咎。

无咎无法,不生不心。能随境灭,境逐能沉。

境由能境,能由境能。欲知两段,元是一空。

一空同两,齐含万象。不见精粗,宁有偏党。

大道体宽,无易无难。小见狐疑,转急转迟。

执之失度,必入邪路。放之自然,体无去住。

任性合道,逍遥绝恼。系念乖真,昏沉不好。

不好劳神,何用疏亲。欲取一乘,勿恶六尘。

六尘不恶,还同正觉。智者无为,愚人自缚。

法无异法,妄自爱着。将心用心,岂非大错。

迷生寂乱,悟无好恶。一切二边,良由斟酌。

梦幻虚华,何劳把捉。得失是非,一时放却。

眼若不寐,诸梦自除。心若不异,万法一如。

一如体玄,兀尔妄缘。万法齐观,复归自然。

泯其所以,不可方比。止动无动,动止无止。

两即不成,亦何有尔。究竟穷极,不存轨则。

契心平等,所作俱息。狐疑尽净,正信调直

一切不留,无可记忆。虚明自照,不劳心力。

非思量处,识情难测。真如法界,无他无自。

要急相应,唯言不二。不二皆同,无不包容。

十方智者,皆入此宗。宗非促延,一念万年。

无在不在,十方目前。极小同大,忘绝境界。

极大同小,不见边表。有即是无,无即是有。

若不如此,必不须守。一即一切,一切即一。

但能如是,何虑不毕。信心不二,不二信心。

言语道断,非去来今。

The Epigraph Of Heart-king

心王铭(傅翁作)

Being an inspector of heart, which is a void-king, it is mysterious, wonderful and difficulty to be predicted; It has no forms or phenomena, It has the most supernatural power which could destroy one thousand of disasters, gaining ten thousand of moralities, its nature being empty, it is displaying its function for laws; you observe it has no forms, and you call it which has a voice, as a general for great dharma, conscientious discipline giving sutras out, just as there is some salted-smell in water, just as there is transparent glue in the matters. The salt and glue have existed in the water and matters, but are not observed.@

观心空王,玄妙难测。无形无相,有大神力。

能灭千灾,成就万德。体性虚空,能施法则。

观之无形,呼之有声。为大法将,心戒传经。

水中盐味,色里胶清,决定是有,不见其形。

Such is the heart-king, who is alive in the body, going out and coming in, touching formation with mood, being quite free, his action being successful. The knowledge of spiritual reality means the knowledge of Buddha reality. The mental power is Buddha, Buddha is the mental power. Whenever there is an utterance of Buddha heart, Buddha heart is always uttering Buddha. If you want to be Buddha earlier, you have to discipline yourself with conscience discipline. Purging the heart of sin with pure discipline, the heart is just Buddha.@

心王亦尔,身内居停。面门出入,应物随情。

自在无碍,所作皆成。了本识心,识心见佛。

是心是佛,是佛是心。念念佛心,佛心念佛。

欲得早成,戒心自律。净律净心,心即是佛。

Except for this heart-king, there is no another Buddha. If you want to be Buddha, your soul should not be polluted by one thing. Although conscience is empty, greed and hatred are really true. Coming into this gate, sitting still and calm, becoming Buddha ,reaching that beach and gaining Prajna Paramita. The real scholar who is in envy of The Way could inspect and practice your mind in person, who understands Buddha being inside the soul, never seeking after him outside it. Just the heart , just Buddha; Departing Buddha, it is not the heart.@

除此心王,更无别佛。欲求成佛,莫染一物。

心性虽空,贪嗔体实。入此法门,端坐成佛。

到彼岸已,得波罗蜜。慕道真士,自观自心。

知佛在内,不向外寻。即心即佛,离佛非心。

The bright mental power touches Buddha and the understanding comes to a mind. Out of the mental power, it is not Buddha; Off Buddha, it is not the mental power. It is not Buddha who is not able to be foreseen, who has no ability to do everything. If you had taken hold of void and loneliness , your soul would still flit here forever. There are a lot of Bodhisattvas and Buddhas who would not calm down the mind like that. Those Bodhisattvas who are pretty bright should be aware of the mysterious sound. The body and mind and soul is beautifully wonderful, it is no use improving them. Thus the wise is free and peaceful @

心明识佛,晓了识心。离心非佛,离佛非心。

非佛莫测,无所堪任。执空滞寂,于此漂沉。

诸佛菩萨,非此安心。明心大士,悟此玄音。

身心性妙,用无更改。是故智者,放心自在。

Don’t mention void-king, nor chat conscience. The mind makes your body doing right or evil, which is neither being nor non-being, sometimes hidden, sometimes visible. The conscience is far away from void, which might be holy or foolish. So an advice for you to carefully prevent your mind from doing anything . Doing a little bit evil just one moment, your soul should still flit here. Pure and quiet morality is like ten thousand of worldly gold. There is dharma-pitaka for Prajna Paramita in your body. The dharmaratna for inactivity is neither easy nor deep. A lot of Bodhisattvas and Buddhas have understood the mind. If you have conditions to meet with it, which is neither gone nor coming up to now.@

莫言心王,空言体性。能使色身,作邪作正。

非有非无,隐显不定。心性离空,能凡能圣。

是故相劝,好自防慎。刹那造作,还复漂沉。

清净心智,如世万金。般若法藏,并在身心。

无为法宝,非浅非深。诸佛菩萨,了此本心。

有缘遇者,非去来今。
